Wang Zhaoguo meets CIS labor leaders

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Wang Zhaoguo, chairman of the All China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), met here Wednesday with labor leaders from the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The visiting union leaders are in Beijing to attend a seminar between the trade unions of China and the CIS countries to discuss ways to cope with the impact of the global economic downturn on workers.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, briefed the guests on the ACFTU's efforts in weathering the downturn, promoting China's economic growth, increasing employment and safeguarding the legal rights and interests of workers.

Vasyl Khara, president of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Ukraine, spoke highly of China's achievements in social and economic development.

He said Ukraine would like to learn from China's experience in dealing with the financial crisis and to deepen cooperation between the trade unions of the two countries.

Eighteen leaders from the national trade unions of seven CIS countries were invited to attend the two-day seminar.
