KIEV, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and visiting senior Chinese legislator Wang Zhaoguo held talks on Monday, vowing to promote bilateral ties.
Wang, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said the China-Ukraine relationship has been continuing to forge ahead since the two countries established relations 19 years ago.
Senior officials of the two countries have maintained exchanges and political mutual trust has been increasingly deepened, Wang said.
Cooperation mechanisms on economy and trade, science and technology, culture, and aerospace have been running well, and cooperation in various fields have been expanding and remarkably fruitful, he said.
People-to-people and inter-regional exchanges have been active which lay a solid foundation for the social basis of the friendly China-Ukraine ties, said the Chinese legislator.
The two sides understand and support each other on major issues of each other's concern and coordinate closely in world affairs, he said, adding that China attaches great importance to developing ties with Ukraine and regards Ukraine as a trustworthy friend and a reliable cooperative partner.
China understands and respects the path of development chosen by the Ukrainian people based on the situation of their own country and the domestic and foreign policies implemented by the Ukrainian government, he said.
Wang also expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian government for sticking to the one China policy, hoping that the Ukrainian government would continue to support China's stance on issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet.
He said China and Ukraine face great opportunities to develop relations.
China is ready to work with Ukraine to deepen political mutual trust, boost mutually beneficial cooperation, expand cultural exchanges and promote the ties further, Wang said.
For his part, Azarov said he saw with his own eyes during his recent trip to China the great achievements that China has made.
The Ukrainian prime minister said it is a consensus between the two heads of state, the two governments, and the two parliaments to promote the Ukraine-China friendly cooperative relationship.
The Ukrainian government is willing to carry out pragmatic cooperation with China in economy and trade, science and technology, education, culture, human science and other areas, he said.
Azarov said his government will support the China Culture Day to be held in Ukraine this September and further support the two parliaments to strengthen friendly exchanges and cooperation.
Wang is on a three-nation Europe trip, which will also take him to Ireland and Poland.
