Chinese top legislator meets Myanmar upper house speaker

  NAY PYI TAW, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo met with U Khin Aung Myint, speaker of the House of Nationalities (Upper House) of Myanmar here on Thursday, and they voiced will to further enhance bilateral ties.

  Noting that the current international and regional situation are undergoing profound changes and both countries are in a key period of development and reform, Wu said furthering bilateral traditional friendship, enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation and promoting common development conform to the fundamental interest of the two countries and their people.

  Each country has different national condition, tradition and cultural background, and has right to choose a political system and development path suitable to its own national conditions, said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People' s Congress.

  Reviewing the 30 years of China's reform and opening up, Wu said it's very important to stick to a country's own path and to handle properly the relations between reform, development and stability while taking economic construction as the central task.

  U Khin Aung Myint said Myanmar's House of Nationalities attaches great importance to developing ties with China's National People's Congress and is ready to play a positive role in promoting bilateral practical cooperation and deepening the traditional friendship between the two peoples.

  Wu arrived in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday on a four-day visit, the second leg of a four-country tour which will also take him to Sri Lanka and Fiji. He visited Iranearlier.
