Top legislator Wu Bangguo meets Kazakh president

Top legislator Wu Bangguo on Thursday met with visiting Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature, said China was ready to work with Kazakhstan to enhance bilateral cooperation in fields including energy, transportation, mineral resources development, and infrastructure construction.

The bilateral relations were at an "all-time high", Wu said, noting the two sides witnessed mutual respect, mutual trust, equality and mutual benefit in development of the relations.

Wu also hoped the two countries could give full play to the two parliaments' role in promoting the friendship of the two peoples, expanding political trust and pushing for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Deepening strategic cooperation with China would have "great significance", said Nazarbayev, adding Kazakhstan would work with China to intensify bilateral cooperation, and tackle the global financial crisis.

Nazarbayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan's adherence to the one-China policy, and its firm support for China on its stance on the Taiwan issue, Tibet-related issues and cracking down on the "three evil forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism.
