Uyunqimg, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, met here on Monday with Greek Parliament President Dimitrios G. Sioufas to discuss bilateral relations and parliamentary exchanges.
Uyunqimg, who is heading an NPC delegation on a visit to Greece, said the past years have witnessed the increasing exchanges and cooperation between the legislatures of the two countries.
"China and Greece are both countries with long history and rich cultural heritage," said Uyunqimg. "The two peoples respect each other's culture and civilizations."
"The exchanges and cooperation between the two legislatures have greatly promoted China-Greece relations in the fields of politics, culture and trade," she said.
She said the NPC would like to discuss with the Greek parliament issues including legislation and supervision.
Sioufas expressed his congratulations on the success of the Beijing Olympic Games, and said Greece and China promoted exchanges and cooperation as the two countries became hosts of the Olympic Games in succession at the beginning of this century.
Sioufas said Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Greece last November elevated bilateral relations to a higher level. He expected to strengthen the cooperation between the two legislatures.
