Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met here on Friday with vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China Zhou Tienong, who is currently on a three-day visit to the country.
During the meeting, Zhou said that the relationship between China and Singapore has been developing rapidly and soundly.
Leaders of both countries exchange visits frequently, and trade volume between the two countries enjoys a steady increase, Zhou said.
China and Singapore, which have established a series of mechanism to effectively enhance bilateral cooperation, work closely on regional and international issues, he said, adding that China is willing to work together with Singapore to push ahead the bilateral ties to a new level.
Zhou noted that China appreciates the valuable support by the Singapore government for the one-China policy.
Agreeing with Zhou on his view of the bilateral relations, Lee Hsien Loong said that the two countries have increased communication in various fields and levels, which have brought substantial benefits to both countries.
Singapore is happy to witness China's great achievements during the past 30 years, and truly appreciates the resolute, innovative and hardworking spirits of the Chinese people, Lee said.
He reaffirmed his country's support for the one-China policy and voiced the willingness to see continued improvements in cross-Straits relationship.
Later Friday, Zhou also met with the Speaker of Singapore Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties, regional and international issues of common concern. They also agreed that the two legislatures will increase communication and work closely to promote bilateral ties.
Zhou arrived here on Thursday at the invitation of the Singapore Parliament. Singapore is the second leg of Zhou's three-nation tour, which has already taken him to Brunei. He will leave Singapore for Laos on Saturday to attend the 17th annual conference of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.
