NPC delegation led by Ismail Tiliwaldi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, wrapped up a three-day goodwill visit to Egypt on Friday.
During the visit, Ismail Tiliwaldi held talks with the Egyptian People's Assembly (lower house of the parliament) Speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour and Shura Council (upper house) Speaker Safwat el-Sherif, who is also Secretary General of the ruling National Democratic Party.
Ismail Tiliwaldi also co-chaired with deputy speaker of People's Assembly Zeinab Radwan the second meeting of the exchange mechanism between the two countries' parliaments.
During the talks with top Egyptian legislators, Ismail Tiliwaldi said the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Egypt have witnessed continuous progress since the two sides established diplomatic ties more than 50 years ago, especially after the establishment of a strategic cooperation relation in 1999.
The Sino-Egyptian ties have become a model for the relations among developing countries as the two sides boosted cooperation in various fields, said Ismail Tiliwaldi.
In recent years, the two countries witnessed frequent high-level visits, development of economy and trade exchange as well as cooperation in the sectors of culture, education, health and information technology, he added.
China appreciates Egypt's persistent adherence to the one-China policy, its support for the host of Beijing Olympics and precious assistance after the fatal earthquake in China's Sichuan Province this May, said the Chinese legislator.
Noting China attaches high importance to the Sino-Egyptian relations, Ismail Tiliwaldi said the NPC has strong willingness to work together with the People's Assembly of Egypt to boost bilateral exchanges and mutual cooperation in a bid to further advance the friendly relations of the two countries.
Sorour, along with other senior Egyptian officials, welcomed the visit of the NPC delegation, spoke highly of the achievements China has reached and the Chinese model of development and congratulated China's successful host of Beijing Olympics.
Stressing the bilateral ties are in the best period in history, the Egyptian officials said Egypt is willing to cooperate with China to enhance mutual political trust, expand scope of economy and trade exchange and investment, and strengthen exchange and cooperation in the domains of parliaments, parties and culture in order to deepen the traditional friendship of the two countries.
During the second meeting of the exchange mechanism between the two countries' parliaments, the two sides exchanged opinions in an extensive and in-depth way on two topics, namely politics and security, economy and society.
Egypt is the last leg of Ismail Tiliwaldi's three-country tour that has taken him to Tunisia and Yemen.
