Han Qide, vice chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, assumed presidency of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) here Thursday.
The CPAPD also reviewed its work over the past five years in a meeting held here Thursday, and modified its statute according to the changes and development of the current domestic and international situation.
Founded in June 1985 as a non-governmental organization advocating peace and disarmament, the CPAPD has been devoted to international communication and academic exchanges for mutual understanding, friendship and world peace. It has so far established ties with about 300 peace groups from more than 90 countries.
