BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Top legislator Wu Bangguo pledged on Friday that China would cement parliamentary exchanges with Brazil and push for a stronger bilateral strategic partnership.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks in his talks with the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies President Marco Maia, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Hailing the great achievements that China and Brazil have made in their relationship over the years, Wu said that in the face of the complex and volatile international situation, the two sides need to facilitate stronger cooperation.
He called on both countries to facilitate exchanges between governments, parliaments and parties, and deepen political trust and win-win cooperation in all fields.
Wu also urged closer bilateral coordination within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Group of 20 and the BRICS bloc (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
Maia is in the Chinese capital to launch the regular exchange mechanism between the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies and the NPC.
Wu said the first meeting of the regular mechanism has gone well, adding that it marks a new high of bilateral parliamentary relations.
Maia, in his turn, said to beef up Brazil-China cooperation not only helps each other's development, but also benefits world peace and stability.
Brazil is satisfied with the bilateral cooperation in such areas as politics, trade and culture as well as close coordination in multilateral meetings, he said.
The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies hopes to cement friendly cooperation with the NPC to contribute more to bilateral partnership, he added.
