BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- China places great importance on developing relations with the Republic of Korea (ROK) and expanding inter-parliament exchanges between the two countries, a senior Chinese legislator said Monday.
Chen Zhili, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks when she met Chang Sang, a senior member of the ROK Democratic Party.
Chang, former president of the renowned Ewha Womans University, is heading a delegation to Beijing to attend the 11th China-ROK Elite Forum.
During the meeting, Chen commented positively on the development of bilateral links between China and ROK since the establishment of their diplomatic relationship.
She said China is ready to work with the ROK to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various areas so as to advance bilateral links in a healthy and steady way.
The China-ROK Elite Forum serves as channel for deepening understanding between the people of China and the ROK. Jointly sponsored by the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs and 21st Century ROK-China Exchange Association, the forum is alternatively hosted in China and ROK every year.
