Chinese legislature closes session, adopts two laws

    The fifteenth session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, ended by completing all items of its agenda at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on June 25, 2010. Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo presided over the closing session and delivered an important speech.

     During the four-day-long legislative session, Chinese top legislature endorsed the Law on the Protection of Oil and Natural Gas Pipelines and the amended Administrative Supervision Law, among others.

     At the same time, the top legislature approved the State Council's decision to appoint Li Liguo as the new civil affairs minister, replacing Li Xueju, and other appointment and removal decisions.

     The top legislative body also approved by vote the decision on the approval of the Consular Treaty between the People’s Republic of China and the Kingdom of Cambodia and that of the 2009 central final accounts which was submitted by the State Council.

     In addtion, Wang Jinshan was appointed as vice chairman of the NPC’s Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee and Tang Xianqiang as member of the NPC’s Internal and Judicial Affairs Committee respectively.

     Also attending the session were vice chairpersons of the NPC’s Standing Committee: Wang Zhaoguo, Lu Yongxiang, Wuyunqimg, Han Qide, Hua Jianmin, Chen Zhili, Zhou Tienong, Li Jianguo, Ismail Tiliwaldi, Jiang Shusheng, Chen Chongzhi, Yan Junqi and Sang Weiguo.

     As a non-voting delegate in attendance were Hui Liangyu, vice premier of the State Council; Wang Shengjun, president of the Supreme People’s Court; and Cao Jianmin, procurator-general of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.
