TEHRAN, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani met with visiting senior Chinese legislator Chen Zhili here on Wednesday, stressing that Iran attaches great importance to Sino-Iranian relations.
The two countries have gained fruitful achievements in the fields of politics, economy and trade in recent years, and maintained a close communication on regional and international issues, Larijani stated.
Larijani said Iran hopes to enhance Sino-Iranian relations to a higher level, and welcomes China to play a more important role in regional affairs.
By means of Chen's visit to Tehran, Iran will further boost parliamentary exchange and cooperation between the two countries, Larijani added.
Chen, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, said the two countries have achieved a great progress in different areas since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Political mutual trust between the two countries has been deepened, cooperation in economy, trade and energy has produced a great development, communication in the areas of culture, education, press and sports has been expanding, and nongovernmental contacts have been increasing, Chen added.
This year is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Iran and China. For the benefit of the two peoples, China hopes the two countries will seize the opportunity to further develop current good momentum of cooperation, Chen said.
Larijani and Chen also exchanged their views on Iran's nuclear issues, and the situation in west Asia and north Africa.
Chen arrived in Tehran Sunday for a friendly visit at the invitation of the Iranian Majlis.
