DAMASCUS, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Assistant Regional Secretary of the ruling al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Mohammad Bkhitan stressed here Monday the importance of enhancing Syrian-Chinese relations in all fields and broadening cooperation between the Baath party and the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) as well as exchanges among the popular organizations in the two countries.
He made the remarks during a meeting with visiting President of All-China Women's Federation Chen Zhili on Monday, as he pointed out that Syria firmly supports "One China" policy, expressing Syria's appreciation of China's stances in support of all just Arab causes.
During the meeting, the Baath leader introduced Syria's efforts to promote women's rights and equality between men and women.
President Chen Zhili hailed Syria's stances in supporting China 's core issues and its strategic role in regional and international arenas and affirmed China's support to Syria's right to defend its territories, expressing her wishes in expanding cooperation and exchanging experiences in women's issues between the two countries.
Chen Zhili also underlined the distinctive position that Syrian women have acquired and their effective participation in building society, pointing out that both CPC and the Baath party have attached importance on women's issues, which is an indispensable part of the parties' causes.
Later on Monday, President Chen also held talks with Syria's First Lady Asma al-Assad and other senior Syrian Baath party members.
