BANGKOK, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Top legislator Wu Bangguo on Wednesday arrived in Bangkok, kicking off his official visit to Thailand.

Wu is paying the visit as guest of the President of the National Assembly of Thailand Chai Chidchob.

In a written statement issued upon his arrival at the airport, Wu said China and Thailand were good neighbors, brothers and friends.

China-Thailand relations have kept a sound and steady development since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1975, Wu said, citing substantive cooperation in politics, trade, science and defense among others.

"We characterized China-Thailand relationship as a paradigm of how countries of different system can work together."

"With the joint efforts, I am convinced that China-Thailand relations would advance further and generate benefits to the two peoples and contribute to regional stability and prosperity," Wu said.

On Wednesday afternoon, Wu will meet with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and hold talks with Chai Chidchob.

During his four-day stay in the country, Wu will also meet with other parliamentary leaders and attend the ground-laying ceremony for a Chinese culture center in Bangkok.

Thailand is the last leg of Wu's three-nation visit to Southeast Asia, which had taken him to Cambodia and Indonesia.
