Chinese top legislator delivers speech at conference of parliament speakers

  GENEVA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Third World Conference of Speakers of Parliament on Monday.

  The first World Conference of Speakers of Parliament was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the UN in New York in 2000.

  It was held in conjunction with the Millennium summit with the aim of supporting the international cooperation and pushing forward reforms at the IPU.

  Wu arrived here Sunday afternoon to attend the parliament speakers' conference. Switzerland is Wu's final leg of three-nation tour which took him to France, Serbia and Switzerland.
