Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Tuesday said here that he is confident about a bright future of China-U.S. economic cooperation and trade.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said at a speech at the opening ceremony of the China-U.S. Economic & Trade Cooperation Forum, that the general trend of China-U.S. economic cooperation and trade will not change as the Chinese and American economies are mutually complementary while the foundation of China-U.S. economic cooperation and trade remains strong.
"The economic stimulus plans implemented by China and the United States have created new business opportunities," he said. "The implementation of our respective stimulus plans has offered new business opportunities for economic cooperation and trade between our two countries."
Wu said that economic cooperation and trade provide a solid foundation for China-U.S. relations and an essential guarantee for continued dynamism of the relationship.
He called on Chinese and American businesses to combine their strengths and explore new avenues and areas of cooperation through joint research, demonstration projects, joint technology development and expansion of mutual investment.
"At present, it is particularly important to uphold the principle of free trade and prevent various forms of trade protectionism. It is also important to bring into full play the role of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogues, the Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade and other relevant mechanisms, act in the broader interest of China-U.S. economic cooperation and trade, and resolve issues arising from cooperation in a timely and proper way so as to create a good environment and provide more facilitation for our cooperation, particularly cooperation between businesses," he said.
