Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo on Thursday visited Fidel Castro, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, in Havana, sources with the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) confirmed.

The two leaders warmly shook hands, exchanged greetings and had a two-hour-long conversation in a sincere and friendly atmosphere on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern, the sources added.

At the invitation of Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada, president of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power (CNAPP), Wu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, arrived in Havana on Tuesday.

Cuba is the first leg of Wu's three-nation American tour, which will also take him to the Bahamas and the United States.

China established diplomatic relations with Cuba on Sept. 28, 1960. Cuba was the first Latin American country to have diplomatic ties with China.
