Yan Junqi, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, met Wednesday with Defense Minister of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

Yan said China cherished its friendship with Mozambique, which could be traced back to the era of Mozambique's struggle for national liberation.

Ties had developed soundly since the two countries set up diplomatic relations in 1975, Yan said.

Yan expressed China's appreciation for the Mozambique government's adherence to the one-China policy.

Nyusi said he was pleased with the military cooperation with China and hoped his visit could enhance military-to-military ties.

Nyusi is scheduled to meet Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie Wednesday afternoon.

According to Chinese Embassy in Mozambique, statistics from Mozambique's investment promotion center show China's investment ranking in Mozambique rose from sixth in 2007 to second in 2008.
