Visiting Chinese legislators, headed by Li Jianguo, vice chairman and general secretary of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), held talks Friday with Japanese legislators and opposition leaders to promote bilateral ties.
"The two sides need to size the current favorable opportunity to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, continuously boost mutual trust, properly handle relevant issues and push forward the strategic and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries," Li said.
At the third meeting of a communication mechanism between the NPC, China's top legislative body, and the House of Councilors of the Japanese Diet, the two sides lauded the important headway in China-Japan relations over the previous year.
The lawmakers of the two countries also vowed to join hands to contribute to the economic stability in Asia as well as in the world against the backdrop of global recession.
On Friday, Li also met Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Kawamura Takeo, speaker of Japan's House of Representatives Kono Yohei, Satsuki Eda, upper house President, and Ichiro Ozawa, President of Democratic Party of Japan.
The two sides decided to hold the fourth meeting of the interparliamentary communication mechanism in China next year.
