Zhou Tienong meets with legislators of five countries

Zhou Tienong, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC),met with senior legislators of Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, Russia and Chile here on Tuesday during the ongoing 17th annual conference of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.

Zhou met with Thailand's House Speaker Chai Chidchob, Cambodian National Assembly President Heng Samrin, vice chairman of the Russia's Federation Council Mezentsev and senior legislators of Australia and Chile respectively.

Durig the meetings, the senior legislators of the five countries spoke highly of the development of their relations with China. They said political mutual trust has been strengthened over the past few years, and economic and trade cooperation has witnessed pragmatic development.

China has maintained close coordination and cooperation with the five countries in dealing with regional and international issues, they said.

They believed parliamentary relations constitute an important part of bilateral relations and strengthening parliamentary exchanges is conducive to consolidating and expanding bilateral relations.

The legislators reiterated that the five countries will continue to stick to the one-China policy.

During the meetings, Zhou said the Chinese NPC has maintained close exchanges with legislative bodies in the five countries at all levels in the past few years. There remained fine development momentum in friendly cooperation.

Zhou said the Chinese NPC is willing to push forward exchanges and cooperation with legislative bodies in the five countries and strengthen exchanges and coordination in the international arena.
