A senior Chinese legislator met here Thursday with Paavo Tapio Lipponen, the former speaker of the Finnish Parliament, and the two sides vowed to further friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, said that he very much appreciated the assistance offered by the Finnish government and people to China's quake areas.
Wang spoke highly of the strengthening political mutual trust between the two countries as well as closer cooperation in the areas of trade, technology, judicial affairs, education and culture.
He said China is willing to work with Finland to further friendly and cooperative relations.
Lipponen said Finland would continue to adhere to the one-China policy. He also conveyed his condolences over China's devastating earthquake and praised the Chinese government and people's solidarity in the disaster relief process.
