BEIJING, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The top legislature on Tuesday held a symposium to solicit the opinions of lawmakers on a draft work report to be delivered at the annual session in March.

Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), presided over the Beijing symposium.

Suggestions, such as lawmakers forging closer contact with the general public and the more efficient handling of opinions, were raised by NPC deputies.

They also called for enhanced oversight by lawmakers over local governments, courts and procuratorates, and more transparency in the NPC's legislation work.

Zhang said the top legislature would seriously consider lawmakers' opinions.

He finished by saying that lawmakers must follow the leadership of the Communist Party of China, step up legislation work in key areas and better exercise their supervising functions.
