The National People's Congress, or NPC, is China's top legislative body, and the supreme organ of state power. Each congress is elected for a term of five years. The NPC has the power to amend the Constitution and oversee its enforcement, as well as to enact and amend basic laws governing criminal offences, civil affairs, state organs and other matters.
The NPC can also elect and appoint members to central state organs, and determine major state issues. Some members expressed their expectations of this year's meeting.
