Senior Chinese legislator meets IFRC president

  BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Hua Jianmin, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, met here Monday with Tadateru Konoe, president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

  Hua, also chairman of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), expressed appreciation for the IFRC's support to the RCSC in disaster relief and first aid training, adding that he hopes both sides can boost cooperation and exchange.

  The RCSC will continue to support the work of the IFRC and make utmost efforts to play a bigger role in international humanitarian work, Hua said.

  Tadateru Konoe said the RCSC has accumulated experience in emergency relief and post-disaster reconstruction in recent years.

  Tadateru Konoe expressed hope the RCSC can share its experience with Red Cross societies in various nations and play a more active role in international affairs.
