BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, held a lecture on intangible cultural heritage (ICH) preservation here Saturday.

Lecturer Chen Kuili, an expert in Chinese folk culture and an honorary academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), presented a lecture on the current situation and problems in ICH protection in China.

Chen said ICH preservation should be carried out in a scientific and sustainable way. He also urged legislation and regulations be created for ICH protection.

The lecture was held so lawmakers might better understand ICH protection.

The State Council, or China's cabinet, had submitted a draft law on protecting the country's ICH for its first reading at the NPC on Monday.

In most cases, a draft law will be read two or three times before being voted upon.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the lecture.
