Symposium held to commemorate 100th anniversary of late senior legislator's birth

  BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The 100th birth anniversary of Ji Pengfei, the late vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, was commemorated here Tuesday.

  Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the commemorative meeting.

  State Councilor Liu Yandong said at the meeting that Ji had performed immortal feats for liberation of the Chinese nation, the country's diplomacy, and Hong Kong and Macao's return to the motherland.

  Liu said Ji had devoted his life to fighting for the cause of communism and serving the people wholeheartedly, calling on officials to learn from Ji's loyalty to the Party and the people and his revolutionary spirits.

  Ji, born on Feb. 2, 1910, became a member of the Communist Party of China in February 1933. Ji was described as a tried and loyal Communist fighter and a proletarian revolutionary, and an outstanding leader in China's diplomatic front, according to the statement.

  He also served as vice premier, state councilor and minister of foreign affairs.

  He died on Feb. 10, 2000 at the age of 91.
