Chinese president appoints new ambassadors

BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has appointed a new ambassador to the United Nations and three ambassadors to Australia, Kazakhstan and Thailand, respectively, according to a statement issued by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) on Friday.

Xi made the appointments in line with decisions made by the Standing Committee of the NPC, China's top legislature.

Liu Jieyi was appointed China's permanent representative and ambassador to the United Nations, replacing Li Baodong.

Ma Zhaoxu was appointed ambassador to Australia, replacing Chen Yuming.

Le Yucheng was appointed ambassador to Kazakhstan, replacing Zhou Li.

Ning Fukui was appointed ambassador to Thailand, replacing Guan Mu.
