Chinese president appoints six new ambassadors

  BEIJING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao has appointed six new ambassadors to foreign countries and international organizations, according to a Friday statement from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).

  Hu made the appointments in line with decisions made by the Standing Committee of the NPC, China's top legislature.

  Wu Hailong was appointed ambassador and head of the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union, replacing Song Zhe.

  Liu Zhenmin was appointed ambassador and permanent representative of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland, replacing He Yafei.

  Li Jun was appointed ambassador to Bangladesh, replacing Zhang Xianyi.

  Cui Jianchun was appointed ambassador to Kuwait, replacing Huang Jiemin.

  Zhang Guoqing was appointed ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire, replacing Wei Wenhua.

  Zhang Tuo was appointed ambassador to Cuba, replacing Liu Yuqin.
