PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Legislators from Asia-Pacific nations on Wednesday vowed to strengthen cooperation and common prosperity in the region.
The call was made at the end of the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) in Mexico's southwestern city of Puerto Vallarta.
The conference adopted a joint communique and 22 resolutions, including issues such as economic cooperation, climate change, poverty eradication, combating terrorism, organized crime and trafficking.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Mexico Senate President Raul Cervantes Andrade, chair of the annual event, said it is necessary to reflect on what kind of public policy can generate greater economic and social development as well as legal certainty.
Foreign Minster Jose Antonio Meade reaffirmed Mexico's commitment to promoting cooperation to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region, stressing that "there will be more growth and prosperity in a vision of openness and cooperation."
The region, he said, now has the economic strength and potential to further improve the living standard of its residents.
Chen Changzhi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, told the meeting that the NPC is willing to work with parliaments of other Asia-Pacific countries to contribute to building a more prosperous and secure future for the region.
