MADRID, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Visiting top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met Thursday with Spanish King Juan Carlos on bilateral friendly relations.

Lauding the efforts made by the Spanish king and the royal family to promote China-Spain relations, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), said that good political relations have vigorously advanced exchanges and cooperation in fields such as economy and trade, culture and education.

Against the backdrop of complex and profound changes in the international situation, to further deepen China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership is not only conducive to their respective economic development, but to world peace, stability and development, said Wu.

China attaches great importance to its ties with Spain and stands ready to make concerted efforts to strengthen practical cooperation in various areas, cope with crises and promote common development, in a bid to lift bilateral ties to a higher level and better benefit the two peoples, he said.

For his part, Carlos voiced hope that the two sides will advance cooperation in trade, tourism and aviation, and expand mutual investments, which will not only boost cooperation in economy and trade, but will also help bolster global confidence in Spanish economy and European economy at large.

The Spanish royal court is willing to continue to make positive efforts to promote bilateral friendly relations, said the Spanish king.

Spain is the last leg of Wu's four European nation tour, which has taken him to the Netherlands, Croatia and Luxembourg.
