China's top legislator kicks off visit to Luxembourg

  LUXEMBOURG, May 22 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo arrived here Tuesday, starting an official goodwill visit to Luxenbourg as the two countries mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

  During the two-day visit, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Grand Duke of Luxembourg Henri, Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker and Laurent Mosar, president of the Chamber of Deputies.

  "On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, China is willing to work with Luxembourg to deepen political trust, expand mutually-beneficial cooperation and increase people-to-people exchanges so as to advance bilateral ties to a higher level," said Wu in a written statement released upon his arrival.

  China and Luxembourg have always respected and understood each other on issues related to their core interests and issues of major concern, said Wu, speaking positive of fruitful bilateral cooperation on areas like finance, steel, airfreight as well as culture, education and tourism.

  Luxembourg is the third stop of Wu's four-European nation tour, which also includes the Netherlands, Croatia and spain.
