TASHKENT, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo arrived here Tuesday for a four-day official goodwill visit to Uzbekistan.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), is expected to meet Uzbek President Islam Karimov and hold talks separately with parliament's lower house speaker Dilorom Toshmuhamedova and upper house speaker Ilgizar Sabirov.

During the visit, the two countries will sign a series of agreements on economic and trade cooperation, and Wu will also deliver a speech on China-Uzbekistan relations and China's foreign policy with neighboring countries.

This is Wu's first visit to Uzbekistan as chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

"China and Uzbekistan are close neighbors and the two peoples enjoy a long history of friendship," Wu said in a written speech upon his arrival, adding the two countries had always demonstrated mutual respect, mutual understanding and support for each other.

Hailing the China-Uzbekistan relationship at its strongest in history, he believed his visit would help further push forward the friendly and cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Wu arrived in Tashkent after visiting Belarus and Russia. He will also travel to Kazakhstan during his four-nation Eurasian tour.
