Top Chinese legislator leaves for Africa, Maldives

BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator, Wu Bangguo, left Beijing Wednesday for official goodwill visits to Namibia, Angola, South Africa and the Maldives.

Wu is the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's highest legislative body.

Wu was invited to visit by Speaker of the Namibian National Assembly Theo-Ben Gurirab, Speaker of the Angolan National Assembly Antonio Paulo Kassoma, Speaker of South African National Assembly Max Sisulu, and Speaker of the Maldivian People's Majlis Abdulla Shahid.

Wu's entourage includes his wife Zhang Ruizhen and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the NPC Standing Committee Li Jianguo.
