TUNIS, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Wang Zhaoguo, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's parliament, met here Monday with President of Tunisian Chamber of Councillors Abdallah Kallel, vowing to promote the closer cooperation between the two parliaments.
Wang said the NPC attaches great importance to the relationship with the Tunisian National Assembly, and is ready to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.
He suggested both sides learn from each other's experience to enhance mutual understanding and friendship, in a bid to strive for the all-round development of the friendly ties between the two parliaments.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, hailed Tunisia' s national policy which aims at both stability and development, saying Tunisia has managed to maintain long-term social stability, economic growth and vigorous development of education, culture, the youth and women.
Wang noted that Tunisia has played an important role in international and regional issues. "China admires Tunisia's choice of the development road that is suitable to its national conditions," he said.
Kallel, for his part, praised the "remarkable" achievements of cooperation between both parliaments in recent years, which he said consolidated and promoted the friendly ties and cooperation between the two nations.
He said the visit by the NPC showed that China shares the desire to further promote bilateral relations, adding that the cooperation in various fields between the two countries have been fruitful in recent years, which would benefit the future generations.
Kallel expressed appreciation of China's selfless help to Tunisia, saying China has always been a pusher of world peace and stability and Tunisia is glad to see China playing such a role in the international arena.
The senior Tunisian legislator pledged that Tunisia is ready to strengthen cooperation with China on a reciprocal basis and to enhance Tunisia-China relations.
On Monday afternoon, Wang also met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Kamel Morjane. Hailing China-Tunisia relationship as a model of South-South Cooperation, he said China cherishes the friendly ties with Tunisia and is ready to deepen cooperation with Tunisia in various fields.
Morjane said Tunisia sees China as a reliable friend and appreciates the assistance China has provided for a long period. He affirmed that Tunisia firmly adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's great cause of peaceful reunification.
Wang led a NPC delegation to Tunisia on an official goodwill visit starting from Saturday evening. On Monday, he also met withTunisian Chamber of Deputies President Fouad Mebazaa and Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi respectively.
