Tibet makes great efforts at legislation in 2009

  BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Standing Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress made great efforts in 2009 to implement its five-year lawmaking plan, according to a press conference held in Lhasa on Wednesday.

  The committee deliberated ten laws and regulations last year, adopted nine and approved one, said Pang Boyong, inspector of the General Office of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress, at the press conference held before the opening of the Ninth Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress.

  The laws and regulations have provided an effective legal guarantee for rapid social and economic development and long-term stability in Tibet, he added.

  The committee paid closer attention to the following five aspects in the course of legislation, i.e., laws and regulations that can help promote employment; those concerning safety in production; those on protecting the legal rights of women, children and the workers and staff; and those regarding social development and conducive to the institutional improvement of the Standing Committee.

  According to the press conference, the Third Session of the Ninth Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress will open in Lhasa on Jan. 10 and last for six days.

  Meanwhile, the Third Session of the Ninth Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will open on Jan. 8.
