Sang Guowei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature, met Tuesday with Theo-Ben Gurirab, president of the Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Gurirab, also speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, is paying an official goodwill visit to China from Aug. 9 to 15 as the guest of Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
Established in 1889, the IPU is the international organization of parliaments of sovereign states. The union, with more than 150 members, serves as a focal point for worldwide parliamentary dialogue.
