China's top legislator Wu Bangguo (R) shakes hands with Kasymzhomart Tokaev, chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan, in Beijing, China, Jan. 25, 2008.

China and Kazakhstan pledged on Friday to boost the cooperation between the two parliaments to help foster the bilateral strategic partnership.

During a meeting between China's top legislator Wu Bangguo and visiting chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan Kasymzhomart Tokaev, the two sides agreed to cement the exchange and cooperation between China's National People's Congress, China's top legislature, and the Kazakh parliament.

Wu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, hailed the recent growth of the bilateral relations, stressing that China would join with the Kazakh side to push forward substantial cooperation in trade, energy, transportation and telecommunication, especially involving major projects and cooperation in the non-resource economic fields.

The top legislator also called on the two sides to work closer in the multilateral organization such as the United Nations and Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Tokaev praised China's achievements in its economic development, saying that Kazakhstan hoped to learn the valuable development experience.

The Kazakh parliament would make efforts to step up friendly exchanges and cooperation with the NPC and play a positive role in promoting the Kazakhstan-China relations, Tokaev pledged.
