The Chinese government is looking to put a major focus on food safety.
The most recent food safety law was put into force in 2009, and since then the supervision system has been constantly improved. In spite of this, the last few years have seen a spate of food scandals, leading many to call for an overhaul of China’s current monitoring system.
Following extensive research on food hygiene and safety Wang Ying, an NPC deputy from Dali in Yunnan Province, is going to present her proposal on revising the food safety law. She thinks that enforcement of law and proper supervision are the keys to improving the current system.
Wang said, "Firstly, the supervision should be more comprehensive and in place. Secondly, the regulation should be more practical so that enforcement of the law can be improved. I’ve done some research in relative departments and spoken to many ordinary people. I’ve studied the entire process from food production to distribution. So this year I want to make a proposal to the NPC committee about revising the food safety law."
