Top generals of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Thursday stressed the importance of ideological and political work in the armed forces.
"We should strengthen the ideological and political work to ensure that the PLA resolutely follows the orders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the Central Military Commission (CMC) and its chairman Hu Jintao," General Guo Boxiong, CMC vice chairman, told a panel discussion of PLA deputies to the ongoing Second Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC).
Guo told his fellow deputies to further improve combat readiness, actively promote the development of arms, speed up modern logistics system, and make great efforts to deepen military reform.
"We will adhere to the one-China policy, oppose the secessionist activities of "Taiwan independence" forces, and strive for peaceful development of the cross-Straits ties," said Guo.
Also at the panel discussion, General Xu Caihou, another CMC vice chairman, said that the PLA must "make unswerving efforts to arm the military with theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics," and earnestly study the outlook of scientific development.
The PLA lawmakers shared the view that the government work report delivered by Premier Wen is a good, encouraging document which keeps pace with the times and displays a truth-seeking spirit.
They hold that the past year has witnessed various challenges for the country and CPC, and great progress for China's national defense and army building, expressing the hope that the PLA will do an even better job this year.
