BRASILIA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese lawmaker Wang Zhaoguo on Thursday met with Brazilian Senate President Jose Sarney on bilateral relations.
Noting that Brazil has made great strides in socio-economic development, Wang, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said at the meeting that relations between the two countries had steadily progressed since they forged diplomatic ties.
In recent years, the two emerging economies have conducted frequent high-level exchanges and engaged in closer multilateral cooperation, contributing to global stability and development, said Wang.
At a time when the world is undergoing profound changes, and China, Brazil are at a critical stage of economic development, Wang said, both countries need to seize the opportunities and face challenges together. To that end, China is willing to further cooperation with Brazil in technology, culture, education and aviation.
He said the NPC is poised to work together with Brazil's Senate to promote exchange and cooperation, and deepen the two countries' exiting friendship and strategic partnership.
Wang considers Sarney to be a longtime ally of China who has contributed greatly to promoting friendly ties between the two peoples.
Sarney recalled his meeting with late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, and expressed his admiration for China's history and culture.
Sarney spoke highly of China's role in recent world affairs, saying Brazil's Senate was committed to strengthening ties with China's NPC, and promoting collaboration among international and regional parliamentary bodies, and consolidating public support for bilateral ties in order to boost two-way cooperation.
Wang arrived in Brazil late Tuesday after wrapping up his visit in Chile. His goodwill visit will also take him to Trinidad and Tobago.
