HAVANA, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Cuban press Tuesday gave an extensive coverage of a visit by China's top legislator Wu Bangguo, which is aimed at injecting new vitality into the growing relations between the two countries.
Wu, chairman of China's Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), is visiting Cuba at the invitation of president of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power (CNAPP)Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada, Cuba's official daily "Granma" and the"Jueventud Rebelde" daily reported.
During the visit, which will last until Thursday, Wu is expected to meet Cuba's former leader Fidel Castro and the incumbent leader Raul Castro Ruz.
Wu is leading a high-level Chinese legislative delegation to Havana, the first stop of his 12-day tour, which will also take him to Bahamas and the United States.
Cuba set up diplomatic relations with China in 1960, the first among Latin American countries to have diplomatic ties with China.
