SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's National People's Congress (NPC) and South Korea's National Assembly wrapped up their fifth meeting under a parliamentary exchange mechanism in Seoul Monday with an agreement to further deepen inter-parliamentary exchanges and cooperation.
At the invitation of the South Korea's National Assembly, a NPC delegation, headed by NPC Standing Committee Vice-Chairwoman Chen Zhili, held talks with vice speaker of South Korean parliament Chung Eui-hwa late Monday.
During the meeting, Chen said the strategic cooperative partnership between China and South Korea is maintaining a good momentum of development featuring frequent high-level exchanges of visits, increasing mutual political trust and active exchanges in various areas such culture, education, science and technology.
Chen said the parliamentary exchanges are important part of bilateral ties between the two countries, and China is willing to work with South Korea to strengthen and improve exchange mechanism, so as to make more contribution to the development of the China- South Korea strategic cooperative partnership.
In response, Chung said the two nations' parliamentary exchanges have played a major role in the bilateral relations, stressing that the two sides should further expand substantial exchanges and cooperation to push the two nations' strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.
The two sides also exchanged views over bilateral ties, economic and trade cooperation, energy, environmental protection and other regional issues.
The NPC and South Korea's National Assembly launched the regular exchange mechanism in January 2006.
