A senior Chinese legislator urged Saturday that members of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) should unite together for better achievements in a new time period.

"CYLC should lead and unite all the members to make new achievements in accordance with time, while sticking to the guidance of the Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents," said Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

Wang made the remarks while meeting with all the members of the Central Committee of the 16th National Congress of the CYLC.

Wang called on members of the Central Committee of the CYLC to be diligent and take a down-to-earth attitude in doing their job.

CYLC is China's mass youth organization with a membership of 75.4 million as of 2007. About one in four, or 24.8 percent, of Chinese youth were members, according to the CYLC Central Committee.

Held from Tuesday to Friday, the 16th National Congress of CYLC has been applauded by the delegates as more frugal, more inclusive and more practical amid a mass participation with representatives coming from all walks of life.
