ALMATY, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo arrived here Friday to start a five-day official goodwill visit to Kazakhstan, the first visit to the Central Asian country by a top Chinese lawmaker.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), is expected to meet with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and hold talks separately with Kazakh Senate speaker Kairat Mami and Oral Muhamedjanov, chairman of the Mazhlis, or the lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament.
During the five-day official goodwill tour of the Central Asian country, which will also take him to Kazakhstan's capital of Astana, Wu will attend a business seminar of Chinese and Kzazkh entrepreneurs, exploring ways for closer trade cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
"China and Kazakhstan are friendly neighbors linked by rivers and mountains and enjoy a long history of friendship," said Wu in a written speech upon his arrival, lauding the healthy, stable development of bilateral ties since the two countries established diplomatic ties nearly 20 years ago.
Wu said China would make joint efforts with Kazakhstan to open a new chapter for a good-neighborly relationship in the spirit of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
"I believe my visit, with joint efforts of both sides, will be a total success and help further boost the China-Kazakhstan comprehensive strategic partnership," Wu said.
Wu arrived in Almaty, the country's biggest city, after concluding his visit to Russia, Belarus and Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan is the last leg of his four-nation Eurasian tour.
