BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Li Zhanshu met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel here on Friday.
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said Merkel's visit to China, the 12th one she paid as the German chancellor, showed that she attaches great importance to developing bilateral relations.
He said economic cooperation between China and German had yielded tangible benefits to enterprises and people of both countries.
The NPC places great importance to shaping the business environment through legislation, Li said, stressing that the Foreign Investment Law adopted this year will provide solid legal guarantees for foreign enterprises operating in China.
He said he hoped that the German side will give fair treatment to Chinese companies in terms of investment review and market access.
The NPC stands ready to facilitate exchanges at all levels with the Bundestag to promote mutual understanding and cooperation, Li said.
Merkel expressed her hope that Germany can obtain more cooperation opportunities that arise from the development of China. She also voiced her support for exchanges between the two countries' legislative bodies.
