BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo Monday said China should work with Finland to expand cooperation in energy efficiency and environmental protection.
"This will help China's industrial restructuring and upgrading, and also create opportunities for Finland's development," said Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, in a meeting with Sauli Niinisto, Speaker of the Parliament of Finland.
The two countries should also cement economic and trade cooperation in traditional fields, Wu said, noting that bilateral cooperation in telecommunication, machinery, paper making and high tech areas had achieved rapid growth.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Finland diplomatic ties. Wu said China valued the ties with Finland, and was ready to maintain the momentum of high level exchanges.
Wu said he hoped Niinisto's China trip would help advance relations between the two legislatures.
Niinisto said this year was a milestone for the development of bilateral relations, and his parliament would make efforts to push forward cooperation between the two nations and to deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples.
Applauding China's important role in coping with the international economic slowdown, Niinisto spoke highly of the mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
Niinisto is visiting China from March 28 to 31 at the invitation of Wu Bangguo.
