Wu Bangguo arrived in Porto for a stopover on his trip to three South American nations

Chairman Wu Bangguo arrived in Porto on Monday afternoon for a two-day stopover on his trip to three South American nations. Wu is expected to meet with local government leaders during his stay in Porto, the second largest city of Portugal.

During his South America trip from Aug. 28 to Sept. 9, Wu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), will also visit the Latin-American Parliament in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Wu was invited by President Renan Calheiros of the Federal Senate and President Also Rebelo of the Chamber of Deputies of the Brazilian National Congress, President Rodolfo Gustavo Nin Noboa of the National Congress of Uruguay, who is also Uruguay's vice president and president of the Senate.

Wu will also be a guest of President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle of the Senate and President Antonio Leal Labrin of the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Chile, and President Ney Lopes of the Latin-American Parliament.

Traveling with Wu are his wife Zhang Ruizhen and members of the NPC Standing Committee, local People's Congresses and ministries, including Dai Bingguo, Chen Jianguo, Shi Xiushi, Lu Congmin, Cao Weizhou, Sun Wei and Wei Jianguo.
