Chairman Wu vows better cooperation with Georgia

Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC),on Wednesday vowed to enhance bilateral cooperation with Georgia.

Wu made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Wu hailed the friendship and sound growth of Sino-Georgian ties. The two countries enhanced political mutual-trust, expanded trade and economic cooperation and maintained communication on international issues.

The Chinese government appreciated to Georgi for its firm support to China on the Taiwan issue regarded Georgia as a good friend and partner, Wu said. China would strengthen bilateral high-level exchange and further trade and economic ties.

The NPC, China's top legislative body, will reinforce exchanges and cooperation with its Georgian counterpart, especially on improving democracy, legal systems and national governance.

Saakashvili said China was playing an increasingly important role on the international arena and Georgia attached importance to the relations with China.

The president also said he had reached broad consensus with Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao during talks on Tuesday.

Georgia admired China's development and valued China's experience, and would increase exchanges and expand bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and infrastructure construction.

The Georgian government supported exchanges and cooperation between China's NPC and Georgia's parliment and would adhere to the one-China policy, said Saakashvili.
